For 46 years I've been doing sheep. In the late 70's - early 80's began using Nicholas Improved Polypays and bred pure until they were no longer available. Then swapped a couple of studs with USDA Exp Station at Dubois, Idaho and have been breeding between the two lines. We average 220% + drop, 3-5% death loss. Some dams will be 12 this lambing. Rate of gain is more than satisfactory, but depends on the year, as this is a pasture operation. Ewes are in the barn for 4-6 days before lambing, and 4-6 after, when they receive free choice alfalfa pellets. Then back to grass to do what sheep were meant to do. Ewe lambs, yearling ewes, stud lambs and stud yearlings we sell at the farm.
